WESSA EDEN

WESSA is a membership-based organisation and, throughout South Africa, our members initiate environmental projects and organise educational events and activities in their local communities.

By joining WESSA, you will be helping to provide valuable support for these volunteer initiatives and will be part of a growing environmental network operating at a grassroots community level via our branches, partners, business members, affiliates and friends groups.

WESSA members work to:
- Protect and conserve natural habitats and biodiversity
- Engage with individuals and communities to promote sustainable livelihoods
- Create opportunities for social and economic upliftment through enviro education
- Collaborate and network with groups and organisations with similar objectives
- Raise awareness and promote public participation around key environmental issues

About WESSA Membership https://www.wessalife.org.za/memberreg
Founded by a small group of concerned citizens in 1883, WESSA was formally established as the Wildlife Society in 1926. As WESSA (Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa), we continue to be a membership-based organisation and throughout South Africa, our members initiate environmental projects and organise educational events and activities in their local communities.
By joining WESSA, you will be helping to provide valuable support for these volunteer initiatives and will be part of a growing environmental network operating at a local community level via our branches, partners, business members, friends’ groups and affiliates.

Western Cape Branches : Eden Branch
Eden Branch was formed in 1983 and is one of WESSA’s most active branches.
It organises and supports many diverse activities such as:

- Talks and Outings on Birding, Botany, Geology, Biodiversity and other environmental topics
- Networking with other environmental and conservation organisations
- Raising Environmental awareness at local level regarding water usage and recycling
- Support for the Garden Route Botanical Garden and Kos en Fynbos activities
- Beach and other clean-ups

The Eden branch committee organises various talks and outings, which are highly successful in terms of both numbers and as fundraisers. The emphasis has been on visiting environmental organisations and donating the funds raised by the participants directly to the host organisation.
